The Battle for Truth: Fighting Disinformation and the Far Right

We’re in a national election at a time when democracy itself is under attack. Coordinated, malicious disinformation campaigns are disrupting our conversations, our communities and our digital spaces. The far right is organizing, and corporate power is undermining truth, trust and our ability to act together. Local voters in Vancouver Centre are feeling overwhelmed and unsure how to respond.

Mariel Cooksey – Executive Director of the Canadian Centre for Far-Right Studies. She has stared into the heart of America’s far-right resurgence and is ready to warn us about what’s coming north. Her research on far-right extremism is backed by firsthand experience from the frontlines of U.S. funding cuts.

James Hoggan – President of Hoggan & Associates and Chair of the David Suzuki Institute. Since founding the influential DeSmog Blog in 2005, he’s been exposing polluted public discourse. As the author of I’m Right and You’re an Idiot and Climate Cover-Up, he’s tracked the global spread of authoritarian disinformation — from Canadian town halls to the world stage.
