Canada needs a strong NDP opposition to protect what makes us different from the US, and your vote for Avi in Vancouver Centre could make all the difference.
With just over a week to go, the NDP has released its costed commitments. It’s the boldest, most people-first platform we’ve seen in a generation—laying out exactly what we’ll fight for in a polarized Parliament. [1]
From national rent control to pharmacare. From cracking down on corporate landlords to capping grocery prices. This plan puts ordinary Canadians first and makes the ultra-rich pay their share.
Here’s what it means for Vancouver Centre:
🩺 Pharmacare and public health care
The NDP is fighting to make diabetes meds, birth control, and access to a family doctor free for everyone. Avi Lewis is the only candidate in Vancouver Centre committed to finishing the job we started on universal dental care and to stopping U.S. corporations from carving up our public health care system.
🏘️ Rent control and non-market housing
The NDP is pushing for national rent control, a ban on renovictions, and the construction of 3 million non-market homes. Avi is also calling for a national rent freeze right now, to shield renters from Trump’s economic chaos and corporate profiteering.
🥫 Capping food prices and taxing greed
The NDP is fighting to cap prices on staples like pasta, bread, and baby formula, eliminate the GST on essentials, and tax windfall profits. Avi has been saying it for years: tax the rich, fight the greed, and feed the people.
But here’s the thing. A bold plan is only as strong as the local people elected to fight for it.
Canada has Medicare because Tommy Douglas made it part of who we are as a country, and because generations of New Democrats fought to defend and expand it. When Avi’s grandfather David Lewis was leader of the NDP, he held the balance of power in a Liberal minority government and used it to secure full pension indexing, triple family allowances, and help create a public energy company. That’s the kind of courage we need in Parliament again.

That’s why your choice for MP is so urgent—and so local.
Polls show a likely Liberal government, hopefully a minority. The Conservatives haven’t won Vancouver Centre since the Cold War. Voters here tell us Hedy Fry has been missing in action. Your choice is whether to keep her– or to elect Avi, someone who’s spent his life standing up to the far-right forces now threatening Canada’s future.
Avi Lewis lives here. His kid goes to school here. He’s not running for a cabinet post or a farewell tour. He’s running to be an unapologetic champion for people in Parliament.
We need a strong NDP opposition to fight for renters, workers, seniors, and people with disabilities. To push back when a Carney government faces pressure to cut public services or bail out banks. And to protect the things that make Canada better than the U.S., like universal public health care, strong public services, and a real commitment to human rights.
And when Trump’s trade war hits home, we’ll need MPs who stand up to that kind of pressure and fight for people, not profits.
It’s safe to vote for something in Vancouver Centre. For Avi Lewis. It’s time.
